Electroplating – Nickel

Nickel

Nickel, a hard metal that has good resistance to wear and corrosion. It is used extensively in electrodeposition with major applications within the decorative field, as well as, for technical coatings and for electroforming.

Its major uses are in decorative coatings as an undercoat for chromium plating but being slow to tarnish is now being used as a finish in its own right.

Its technical uses include building up worn machine parts, coating for R.F. screening and facing printing plates.

It is estimated that the production of electroforms consumes 6000-7000 tons of nickel per annum.
